Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center of San Bruno
 
Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center of San Bruno was established on March 8, 1990 with Blessing of Bhagwan whose very own words, on receiving our letter of Center Registration, audio bhajan tapes and photos, were “……..these are my Bhaktas…..” and He commented that He deeply appreciated our efforts for the Propagation of the Culture of the Divine.
 
 
Achievements and Successes (19 years)
 
Serving home-cooked hot lunches and delivering to Home-bound Seniors at Samaritan House (San Mateo) for the past 8 years.
 
Serving home-cooked hot dinners at San Mateo Armory and now Safe Harbor Shelter in South San Francisco for over 6 years.
 
Educational/Career Training Support /Clothing, Grocery Items, Toys collection/distribution and lately home-cooked hot dinner serving at First Step Shelter in Burlingame for the past 4 years.
 
With June 1st of 2008, Annual Blood Drive together with Blood Centers of the Pacific in Millbrae will be for Sixth successive year. 
 
Free Medical Clinic sponsored by Center for Non- Insured on Last Saturday of each Month at Dr. Umesh and Nilima Sabharwal’s Medical Clinic in Redwood City will be in Fifth year.
 
Annual “Operation Clean Sweep” (sweeping/cleaning streets) of City of San Bruno will also be in Fifth year.
Annual San Bruno “Green Day’ (Arbor-Tree Planting Day) will be SSE students Second year project.
 
And the newest Seva project “Disha Darshan” – collection of clothings and assist settling and guidance to battered Asian women of Peninsula is Center’s 2008 goal.
 
Past Annual “Senior’s Day” Program with Medical and Dental Check-ups and Lunch will also be revived in the latter part of 2008
 
Last year, Center’s Bal Vikas/SSE Program had gone ’On-Line’ with students from India and Canada participating. Expansion Program will include students from Fiji, Australia and New Zealand in the very near future.
 
Center observes Ladies Day each 19th of month and bhajans are held in Member’s homes outside of Center, on a monthly basis.
 
With inspiration from Bhagwan, in October 1997, here in San Bruno Center, member Dr. Nilima Sabharwal, got the idea of initiating “Home of Hope’’ Project which has now expanded to financing of 15 orphanages all over India with over 2000 handicapped boys and girls.
 
In raising awareness as a Community Service-Oriented Group, Center was awarded “Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition” in recognition of Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community presented by Member of United States Congress, Rep. Tom Lantos at Cinco-de-Mayo Festival Celebration on May 5, 2000 in Foster City. 
 
Additionally, Center has received recognitions from the Blood Centers of Pacific, City of San Bruno Beautification Program and from Bay-Area Peninsula Shelter Network and Volunteers to San Francisco General Hospital. 
 
In 1997 Center organized and escorted a Group of 21, especially Senior members, to Shirdi, Puttapatrthi and Mysore for 12 days.
 
Also, in 1998, a Group of 9 traveled to Patal Bhuneshwar Caves in Uttar Pradesh and Shantikunj, Haridwar (Gayatri Pariwar Headquarters).
 
A Group of 3 had also visited Shiva Monastery in Kauai, Hawaii in 2005.
Center’s bhajan audio tapes has reached homes in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, England, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka ,Singapore.
 
Center’s website “www.saiomni.com” has so far been visited by over 11000 browsers.
  
Over the past 18 years Center has encouraged its members as annual group subscribers (numbering 40-45) to the monthly Sanathana Sarathi publication and have collected/bought/distributed over $9000 worth (90 copies @ $100 3 vol. sets each) of video films Shirdi Sai/Sathya Sai for members homes.
 
Center members with SSE students have Annual Center Picnic at Alameda Beach/Fremont Park in late August/September of each year.
 
Members had donated $3500 for the Gujerat Earthquake Relief Fund sent to Sai Trust Fund in Southern California.
 
Together with the Buddhist Temple of San Bruno, Center collected clothings, medical/school supplies and air-shipped by UPS and Fed-Ex 3 air freight containers to Tsunami victims in Indonesia, Thailand and Southern India.
 
Additionally, Center helped collect clothings/ medical supplies for the Hridaya Islamic Foundation of East Bay for earthquake victims in Pakistan.
 
In year 2000, four Center members donated 2 milking cows to Haligappa’s Sai Krupa Orphanage for boys in Seerangapatnam, Mysore.
 
Bags of Pinto beans/rice, clothings, baby food, toys, medicines were delivered/distributed to Migrant Farm Workers families in Salinas in 2003.
 
In 2004, with very special arrangement of Central Office and with Bhagwan’s approval, 8 of our Center members funded, collected and distributed (cooked in Swamy’s Ashram kitchen) food and sweets to street dwellers  in the back-roads of Puttaparthi. Bhagwan had also sent two Seva-Dal volunteers to assist in this Project.

Also handed to Central Trust 2 Gold Buttons for Bhagwan’s Robe, 120 Saris and 75 Boys Uniforms to be handed out by Bhagwan to Annantpur College Students.
